October Selection

This month book is 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett.

Alyce will be our host on Thursday, October 13th @ 7.  If there is a scheduling conflict she will let us know. :)

Alyce said she would have 4 to 6 copies of the book to pick up at the library on Monday.  If you need a copy please let her know.

September Book Selection

The book for September's meeting is 'Moloka'I' by Alan Brennart.

This is a historical fiction book and takes place in the late 1890's early 1900's in the Hawaiian islands.  Here is a short description...

There are 6 bookclub books circulating around in the group.  If you still need one give me a call.  I know we have one week less this month to finish the book, but I was still planning on having bookclub on Thursday, September 8th @ 7.  If any of you feel like we need another week let me know.

May Book Club Meeting

It sounds to me like everyone is fine with the schedule change, so I'll make it official: Our meeting will be Thursday, May 26th, at 7:oopm at Tendra's house. So there is still plenty of time to read the book if you are hoping to. It is "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. See you there!! Two barks mean 'Yes!"

Meeting for May

Ladies, I am afraid I need to re-schedule our May book club meeting. (I have tickets for WICKED Thursday night!!) I wouldn't normally ask you all to change your plans to fit my schedule, but since it is at my home I think it would be less awkward if I were there...

Looking at an alternative date, how about Thursday, May 26th? I am available lots of other evenings before that, but I tried to avoid Zumba Tuesdays and Scouts Wednesdays. Let me know if there is another day that is good. I know that is awfully late in the month and would really crowd the June meeting, but since no one is on the books for that month I wondered about being a little flexible?

I will wait to hear your input.

Nightlight: A Parody

Hi all! I'm looking forward to Erin's house this week for "When You Reach Me". If you want to check into the next book it's titled, "Nightlight: A Parody" by Harvard Lampoon author's. We've not done a parody yet. We've talked about "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" on a few occasions but haven't actually done it. SOOO since many of us are Twilight fans I thought this little book would be quite enlightening, funny, and educational :), as far as parodies go. Just fyi a parody is a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing. Not sure how the world made vampires so serious but this little book seemed to think we've all gotten a little too caught up in Stephanie Meyer's imagination. I've got to read it again but I think it goes into the first two of her books plus "The Host".

I've got a copy that I'll be reading through again before I send it around. There are 6 copies in the consortium and two of them are at Nampa.

For our discussion I'd like to ask everyone to keep a little slip of paper handy (I'll give you one at Erin's house) and just jot down the page number, paragraph and sentence that refer's to something that you felt was making a point about...well, the culture of vampires, the world today, actors/actresses etc.

March book

I want to get the word out about our book for next month. It's called "When You Reach Me" by Rebecca Stead. It's a very short, fast read (under 200 pages). I don't want to say too much, because it's better if you go in not knowing what to expect. It's a little mystery, a little sci-fi...very simple, but I liked it a lot.

Head to Erin's, second Thursday in March.
